The experience and expertise available on the RIDBA board is increasing thanks to three new members!

That’s because Oliver Janes of Briarwood (centre), Stephen Jaques of Jaques (left) and Matthew Hastwell of Wareing Buildings (right) are all joining.

RIDBA chairman Neil Fox said: “It’s always good to see people becoming more involved with RIDBA.

“They have a wealth of experience and expertise, and that’s only be a good thing for RIDBA and its members.

“It’s a really good piece of news to end the year with.”

The winter edition of the RIDBA Journal sees Stephen Jaques take part in the Steeling the Limelight feature.

In partnership with Trimble, RIDBA is bringing back its Industry Day and you can book your free place now!

With a theme of embracing technology and automation, suppliers will showcase their tech-based products and services.

There will also be live demonstrations, presentations and industry updates, plus opportunities to network.

RIDBA general manager Joe Chalk said: “It’s great to be bringing back RIDBA’s Industry Day.

“It’s always a popular event and we know members find it reward from both learning and networking points of view.

“Our thanks to Trimble for hosting the day.”

Craig Johnson, business manager at Trimble, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming our fellow RIDBA members for the association’s industry day in the spring.

“It’ll be the first time RIDBA holds the event in partnership with a member and we’re thrilled that that member is us!

“We’re sure it’ll add a brilliant new dynamic to what is always a fantastic event, and we can’t wait to see everyone in April.”

Supplier member Trimble will host the event at its base in Leeds on Thursday, April 18.

RIDBA’s AGM will take place at the end of the day.

Booking opens for free Italy trip for RIDBA members

Would you like to go to northern Italy for a visit to fibre cement manufacturer Briarwood Landini for free? Then book for RIDBA’s exclusive member trip now!

Briarwood purchased the business in 2020 and controls the supply and distribution of its growing range of products. Now, RIDBA members can book for an exclusive visit.

The trip will take place from March 13 – March 14, 2024. Only RIDBA members can attend, with numbers limited to two people per member business.

Briarwood Landini will cover the cost of flights, accommodation and food. Guests will need to pay for drinks and travel to and from Heathrow.

Booking is available on a first come, first served basis. Delegates will need to travel together and be present on both days of the trip.

RIDBA Building Awards 2023: Winners

The RIDBA Building Awards are always a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the best our industry has to offer and this year RIDBA members outdid themselves, supplying us with flying pigs and smashing the record number of entries across the eight categories.

It’s a cliché, but without those entries there is simply no event! They were all fantastic and a credit to the industry; thank you to everyone who entered. Of course, we need to say congratulations to all of the members lucky enough to take a trophy home from this year’s event.

RIDBA Building Awards 2023 to support Stroke Association

The Stroke Association is the chosen charity for the RIDBA Building Awards 2023.

By providing specialist support, advice and information, the Stroke Association’s aims help people rebuild their lives after a stroke.

It funds critical research and campaigns so people affected by stroke get the best care and support.

RIDBA chairman Neil Fox said: “I’m sure the guests at the RIDBA Building Awards will agree the Stroke Association is an incredibly worthy cause.”

“I urge them to give what they can on September 22.”

Approximately 100,000 people have strokes every year and stroke strikes every 5 minutes.

To help raise money, RIDBA will be running a prize draw at the event.

The draw will see one lucky guest will win five VIP tickets to see Peter Kay live at the O2 on January 6, 2024.

Raffle tickets will be available on the evening from 6:30pm, with the draw made at 9:30pm

Wolfenden Concrete RIDBA tour booking

RIDBA members will be able to go behind the scenes at Wolfenden Concrete in just a matter of weeks!

The visit on September 6 is the last in a series of exclusive RIDBA tours which has also seen IAE and Wareing Buildings host members.

Wolfenden Concrete is a RIDBA supplier member based in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, and has been working with dairy farmers for more than 40 years.

The tour will include a live demonstration showing how Wolfenden’s products are made.

Registration will be at 1pm with lunch provided for free before the tour begins at 2pm. It will finish at approximately 4pm.

Comedian and author Mark Watson is to host the RIDBA Building Awards 2023.

Best known for being one of the UK’s leading live comedians, he is also a writer, producer and director.

A TV and radio regular, Mark has appeared on almost every panel show going from Have I Got News and Mock the Week to 8 Out of 10 Cats and Would I Lie To You.

He’s also appeared on This Week, Live at the Apollo, Taskmaster, and celebrity editions of Mastermind, Pointless and Bear Grylls’ Celebrity Island.

Mark Watson will host the RIDBA Building Awards at the Graduate Hotel, in Cambridge, on Friday September 22.

RIDBA tour of Wareing Buildings

RIDBA members will be able to go behind the scenes at family-run business Wareing Buildings this summer.

Established almost 115 years ago, Wareing’s ten-acre site in Preston boasts cutting edge machinery and technology, while being steeped in history.

Following the success of RIDBA’s tour of IAE in April, RIDBA and its members will be heading further north to the Lancashire-based frame manufacturer on July 6, 2023.

Registration will be at 1pm with lunch provided for free before the tour begins at 2pm. It will finish at approximately 4pm.
